WHAT’S HAPPENING IN THE WORLD OF MILK CRATE THEATRE?

OUR NEXT LIVE PERFORMANCE is a special one!

Those Around Me

Stories of trust, relationships, groups and belonging

A Live Action Performance Forum

WHAT MAKES A STRONG COMMUNITY? Have YOUR say about the important issues in creating a safe and friendly community where people can prosper and move forward together. Forget APEC – this is where the real issues are wrestled with!

As part of the Kaleidoscope Festival: Sydney’s Homeless Persons’ Festival

We’ve changed the rules. Yes, for the first time in Milk Crate’s seven year history, we’ve turned the tables and have created a show where the players get more stage time than the professional actors! Part community conference, part live debate and part performance, Those Around Me is an opportunity for everyone to get together and have a chat about what matters most to them in building a strong community, whilst participating in some exciting theatre to boot. Forget APEC, this is where the real issues are discussed. Featuring performances from some of our many Milk Crate drama programs this year including Edward Eagar Lodge, The Wayside Chapel, Mission Australia Centre and Rough Edges, and with some comic moments from the Milk Crate Actors Michael and Maurie. Make sure you don’t miss an opportunity to have fun, have a great night of theatre, have a say in your community and have a big feast of food. And all in the one place – you can’t get better than that!

Milk Crate Marriage!

A big, hearty Milk Crate hug to regular participants Pjay and Teresa who got married a few weekends ago. We all wish them a bright and loving future together.

Milk Crate participants in Australian/UK documentary

Street Opera about Sydney’s ‘Eternity Man’

And speaking of congratulations – Pjay has been a busy boy. Both he and Sandra from the Edward Eagar Lodge Players were recently cast in the upcoming filmed documentary about Sydney’s legendary ‘Eternity Man’.

A collaboration between the ABC and the UK’s Channel 4, and building on the ‘Eternity Man’ opera staged in Sydney and London, the film was shot on the streets of Sydney and is being directed by Julien Temple (The Great Rock and Roll Swindle, Absolute Beginners, Vigo – A Passion for Life). The documentary is told through music and song and follows the journey of Arthur Stace -a reformed petty criminal, World War 1 veteran and recovering alcoholic - whose obsession is writing the word ‘eternity’ wherever he goes.

Well done Pjay and Sandra! We’ll keep you all posted for when it hits the cinemas or goes to air.

Final Home-Delivered Outreach Workshops confirmed

Our Home-Delivered Program has been a big success this year featuring programs at The Wayside Chapel, Mission Australia Centre, The Mercy Arms, Rough Edges and now our final program at The Matthew Talbot Hostel. Hold on to your hats Matthew Talbot!

What happened in the last show?

“Bad Blood” was a story about love, tension and the impacts of family. It took us on a journey through the life of Sam, a guy who fought against the stereotype of being from “Bad Blood”.

The glimpses of love he felt for his family and others were over shadowed by the tension of being abandoned, mistreated and misjudged.

After a long and rough time he finally found a friend in a worker who would listen, and offered advice and support. Inspired and strengthened by this experience Sam was able to move on and finally took the step to start at TAFE studying youth work, he now has a partner and a gorgeous little girl.

We also got the latest update from the Edward Eagar Lodge Players on the chronicles of Captain Emotion and Shallowman.

When they meet at their father’s BBQ they realize that they may have more in common then they thought. Who is right? Do they both have something important to say?

Keep your ear to the ground and for your own sake don’t miss the next episode!
