Milk Crate – Home Delivered
Aside from the ever-popular and entertaining performance nights of Milk Crate Theatre, we started another project in 2007 aptly named, Milk Crate – Home Delivered. Originally conceived by some of the key members of the drama workshops at Edward Eagar Lodge, Milk Crate – Home Delivered takes workshops, and, if willing, long running members of the program to other inner city welfare centres to run a 4 week workshop series. These workshops, similar to open drama workshops at Edward Eagar Lodge are designed for beginners, to build confidence, teamwork and improvisation skills. The participants work devising and performing their own short piece in front of the Milk Crate Theatre audience. This project has already enjoyed great success with the fresh enthusiasm of new members from Wayside Chapel, Mission Australia Centre,
Mercy Arms, Rough Edges and Matthew Talbot Hostel to the ‘Milk Crate Players’ team of regular performers.
Those Around Me: Kaleidoscope Festival Show:
Sydney's Homeless Persons' Festival
We changed the rules. Yes, for the first time in Milk
Crate's seven year history, we turned the tables and created
a show where the players got more stage time than the
professional actors! Part community conference, part live
debate and part performance, Those Around Me was an
opportunity for everyone to get together and have a chat
about what matters most to them in building a strong
community, whilst participating in some exciting theatre to
boot. Forget APEC, this was where the real issues were
discussed.
Featuring performances from some of our many Milk Crate
drama programs this year including Edward Eagar Lodge, The
Wayside Chapel, Mission Australia Centre and Rough Edges,
and with some comic moments from the Milk Crate Actors
Michael and Maurie, it was a huge success. Check out our
news section for the results of the audience votes!
