Alex Travers is a Maker, Mover and Playwright fuelled by curiosity and silliness, and with a passion for community-engaged practice.

Alex trained at École Internationale de Théâtre Jacques Lecoq in Paris and has completed Arts and Education degrees from the University of Newcastle and the University of Canberra. Inspired by the language of hands, Alex continues to learn Auslan (Australian Sign Language)

Alex has collaborated with artists, youth, and diverse communities as the Creative Producer (Outreach + Community) for the Think+DO Tank Foundation and as the Program Manager - Children & Young People at NIDA Open. Alex currently produces the Education and Outreach program at Ensemble Theatre and is an experienced teaching artist driven by shared creative language, inclusion, and radical access. Alex also sits on the Board of Directors for Tantrum Youth Arts based in Newcastle, NSW.

Alex's works and co-productions include OBLIVION (The Laboratory), Art About Not Making Art (Tantrum Youth Arts), Sleep, Perchance to Dream (Old 505 Theatre & Tantrum Youth Arts) and The Stage Where We Met (Newcastle Fringe). Alex has been awarded mentorships and residencies with National Theatre of Parramatta, KXT, Express Media, ATYP, Montague Basement x bAKEHOUSE, Carclew and Tantrum Youth Arts, and was awarded a Young Regional Artist Scholarship by Create NSW in 2018. Alex's work is published in the zine anthology DOG (2021) and This Was Urgent Yesterday (Currency Press, 2020). Alex was shortlisted for the Stoddart Playwright Award in 2022.

Alex is delighted to be joining the MCT family as Associate Artist and working to positively effect social change and build empathy through the power of performance.
