In 2017 Milk Crate Theatre sought to address the gender imbalance found in our regular workshop programs. Women, especially older women, experiencing homelessness is on the rise and Milk Crate Theatre endeavoured to create safe spaces for women to develop new skills, build confidence and make social connections with other women.
In 2017 Milk Crate Theatre developed new partnerships with three exceptional women's organisations; Domestic Violence Service Management (Moving Out, Moving On), Women's and Girl's Emergency Centre and Bonnie Support Services. Over the course of 16 months, we delivered creative arts workshops to dozen of women, led by seven experienced female professional artists.
In 2018 and 2019 Milk Crate Theatre continued our work with Women's and Girls' Emergency
Centre engaging women and their children at one of WAGEC's supported transitional housing
facilities, Jeannie's House.
Milk Crate Theatre will be continuing our Women's Workshop Program in
2020, come back soon for updates....
