In this workshop series, participants explored the art of devised theatre through the mechanics of Melodrama, Slapstick, Mime and Noir — discovering how each form brings a unique lens to storytelling and performance.
Led by facilitators Graeme Rhodes and Nick Vagne, the series used theatrical exercises, games and self-devised performance to guide participants through the process of creating an original work together — from the very first idea to a finished piece.
And the results spoke for themselves. Through the workshop series, participants created A Man Named Lucky — a noir comedy short film that went on to win Best Satire at Night of Shorts film festival in Italy.
By the end of the term, participants didn’t just become better performers — they walked away with the confidence to talk loudly about it at cafes, bus stops and social gatherings.
