“INVISIBILITY”
Mental illness is often called the invisible disability. Invisibility, Milk Crate Theatre’s award-winning film, made it visible.
Created as part of Metro Screen’s Screenability project, four Ensemble Artists collaborated with a visual artist and costume designer to turn their internal experience external — handcrafting costumes that visualise the feelings and sensations of a mental health crisis. A volunteer then wore the costumes in everyday scenarios — waiting for the bus, walking down the street, shopping at the mall — offering others a glimpse into what it feels like to walk in someone else’s shoes.
Invisibility won Best Micro-Documentary at the Chicago International Film Festival for Social Change.
