Poverty Porn: The Musical! Our upcoming major production in 2027.
Ever watch Today Tonight or A Current Affair or picked up a newspaper and feel like you’re consuming the same thing over and over again? Dole bludgers too lazy to get off their arses and get a job. Homeless people who could improve their lives if only they got that haircut. A young single mum – broke, evicted and pregnant again! It’s almost as if the media recycles the same stories. In fact, it’s almost as if they…got off on it.
Poverty Porn: The Musical! is a tongue-in-cheek examination of Australia’s obsession with blaming disadvantaged people for their circumstances. It looks at why this narrative is played on endless repeat and how it denies a voice to those at the centre of the story.
