CREATING IMPACT

CREATING IMPACT is a multi-year, national project that brings together arts organisations, funders and experts to co-design and implement a shared impact framework.

Milk Crate Theatre is leading the development of the project, with community-engaged arts organisations contributing their expertise to its co-design and implementation. Impact consultants will also support the process by facilitating sessions and providing strategic insights to inform the project’s direction.

Social Impact Roundtable
(February, 2024)

Milk Crate Theatre hosted a Social Impact Roundtable in February 2024 to understand the current state of outcomes measurement across small-medium sized arts organisations and assess the appetite for developing a shared outcomes framework.

The Roundtable aimed to achieve three goals:

  1. Understand the current experience of small-medium sized arts organisations in measuring the social outcomes of their work;

  2. Propose the development of a shared outcomes framework across the arts sector; and

  3. Connect arts organisations, government and philanthropic funders to invite dialogue around future opportunities and ways of working.

Phase 1: State of the Sector
(May-June, 2024)

  • Established collaborative agreement on the project’s purpose, scope, timelines, principles and key milestone.

  • Reviewed current tools/measures across the sector.

  • Interviewed funders to establish priorities and expectations.

Phase 2: Co-Design

(November 2024 - Mid 2025)

  • The project group with Huber Social developed a sector Impact Thesis (or Theory of Change) and a shared impact framework including a shared set of universally agreed outcome measures.

  • Sessions included up-skilling to ensure informed participation.

Phase 3: Pilot Implementation

(2025 - 2026)

  • Organisations will implement the Framework with support from Milk Crate Theatre and the impact consultants, measuring impact across their communities.

  • A variety of tools and methods will be used across the project group's communities.

  • The data will be securely housed and assessed by Huber Social.

Phase 4: Data Analysis and Report

(2026)

  • Huber Social will aggregate data to establish measures and work with the project group to craft a report sharing pilot results and broader recommendations on benchmarks, process, and tools.
