Natural Order

THAT'S ALL FOLKS

Blog Post from the team at Milk Crate Theatre.

We See You; We Hear You; We Are Thankful for You!

With the final curtain closed on what was our season of Natural Order, our hearts and minds have expanded in ways we never thought possible. From the initial spark of inspiration in Artistic Director Margot Politis' brain, 18 months later saw a hugely successful sell-out season which would not have been possible without the love and support we received from our Milk Crate Community and beyond.

This production was a first for us in many ways. We said goodbye to the traditional theatre format and dove headfirst into the immersive 360-degree style of audience engagement, physically creating the set in front of and around our audiences. We welcomed various art forms to the piece including a show-stopping cabaret number!! (YES, the lyrics were written by our participants) We decided to dream big and project our film work onto large scrims, sending audiences down a Willy Wonka-esque type tunnel of haunting visuals and sound.

We received fabulous comments and feedback from our wonderful audience members, some of which you can read below.

"Natural Order was a fabulous success in so many ways…. artistically, socially, collaboratively, creatively, and aesthetically. I loved the humour and pathos of the DAVO story. The immersive nature of the work allowed us to step into the world of the creators and experience their frustration and pain. The cabaret song was a show- stopper and I'm still humming the tune. I was moved to tears by the graceful movements of the participants, projected on the screens. The set and lighting were stunning. Petersham Town Hall was transformed by this work. Congratulations Margot, Lisa, Jess and team!"

"Love the different environmental journeys, the mix of live and pre-recorded footage together.

Such a clever + personal production. Well, done everyone!"

"On my goodness, what a wonder! So much heart. So much humour. So much truth.

I loved every second of it. More please!!"

"Brilliant! Painfully but hilariously relatable! Well done"

"Thank you for sharing your wonderful creative selves – such a shiny and layered performance."

"Loved the show! Great cast, a great set. Loved the audience inclusion. Such a high production & tight skills in the group. I hope this show continues & tours to a wider audience. 10/10

"We wish the promise of fulfilment inherent in every individual who comes into the world could be acknowledged, fostered and encouraged by the society into which they were born…

Many thanks to the cast, and to the creative crew for a deeply moving, imaginatively staged and memorable production"
Catherine Skipper, South Sydney Herald.

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to those that made this production possible, including but not limited to, Inner West Council, Australia Council for the Arts, Create NSW, StreetSmart Australia, Technical Event Services, MNR Construction, The James Kirby Foundation, The Robertson Foundation, Shopfront Arts Co-Op, Giant Dwarf, St Vincent De Paul Society, Pozible, International Screen Academy, and of course every single one of you that contributed to our Pozible campaign in May.

"I will take away an invisible badge of honour because I am so proud of my achievements and the achievements of us as a cast, and us as an entire team. Milk Crate is AMAZING! Fills a very special role in society to support people in need"
Darlene (Participant, Performer and Songstress extraordinaire).

"The combination of music, video, song and drama complement each other keep the action moving, and the immersive 360-degree set allows the audience to be voyeurs to the changing scenes and action"
 Virginia Balfour, ArtsHub Australia
