Our Future Waterloo

Jack Ballhausen, Artist Facilitator on the Our Future Waterloo project in partnership with Counterpoint Community Services, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Primary School, and the Sydney Story Factory writes about the project:

Over two very spirited performances Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Primary’s sixth grade class raised their voices in order to answer one pressing the question – what does our future look like?

Facilitated by Counterpoint Community Services and in collaboration with Sydney Story Factory, "Our Future Waterloo" elicited some truly spectacular ideas from Waterloo’s brightest. Flying cars, drone delivery-services, increased Indigenous title recognitions (and even a new stadium for the South Sydney Rabbitohs!) were just a few of the proposals made by the class.

The performance took the shape of a news report, centred around a typical day in the life of a Mount Carmel student. You know, the usual; Hoverboard Quidditch Championships, renewable energy discoveries, as well as every student’s favourite lunchtime snack - a low fat, high enzyme, low sugar, highly flavoured protein ball!

The ideas, enthusiasm and commitment of these kids gave me great hope for the future of the area. Congratulations to the students, their teachers and the school! - Jack
